Guns by Price Range
Hey, so I've been getting a lot of questions on, "which gun should I buy?" So, I put together this quick little guide that should help you find the gun for you. Note that the guns are sorted in no particular order, choose the one based on your criteria.
Contents
i. Introduction
ii. Low Budget Range (2.5-10k)
iii. Medium Budget Range (10k-40k)
iv. High-end Range
v. Conclusion
I. Before we get started, you need to ask yourself: Do you have a budget? Look no further. This guide will cover each gun's price, and value for that price. This guide, however, will not cover statistics. View Bboy's thread located in the same category for gun specs. Let's get started.
Sparring
PKing
II. Low Budget (2.5k - 10k)
1. Ak-47 - This seems to be the most popular gun at this price range. It's automatic, has a great RoF, but the auto capabilities are only stationary. It's pretty good for spraying down Lethal, but the mobility isn't too good. Does 7 damage.
Pros: High rate of fire, automatic, great bang for buck.
Cons: Cannot move while shooting auto, low mobility.
*($2500)
2. AP7 OR Desert Eagle - Great price-quality ratio here for sparrers, decent for PKers if dualed. Has very low freeze, 8 damage, but a low RoF, and a low clip size. A lot of people use both of *these dualed for PK, as it helps with the low clip and RoF issue, but sacrifices a little freeze. Great guns overall, good for skilled sparrers. The Desert Eagle has lower freeze, but lower accuracy than the AP7.
Pros: Low freeze, 100% accuracy (AP7), 8 damage.
Cons: Bad fire rate, low clip size.
($5500)
3. Neo Rifle - It's good if you know how to use it. Does 9 damage, very low freeze, good RoF, but only two bullets in the clip. The two bullets can be squeezed off fast in succession, and the reload isn't TOO long. It also comes with a good melee, the Neo Knife or Neo Bayonette, which is attachable onto the gun. The melee does 9 damage and is pretty fast, so this is a great price-quality ratio; just make sure you can use it right.*
Pros: 100% Accuracy, low freeze, 10 damage (upgraded), comes with good melee, comes with cool ani, great value.
Cons: 2 bullet clip, manual reload.
($6500)
ACR - Enter the fantastic ACR, one of the most popular guns in Modern Warfare 2 come to make its appearance in iEra as a monster gun for the price. Really. This gun is incredible in terms of cost-efficiency, unlike the guns in the newer Mephace's Gun Store. This gun felt almost exactly like the Shipka when I used it, and at 1/10th of the price - literally. It mirrors the dual bullets of the Shipka, and it has quite similar freeze and RoF. The only drawback I see to this gun is the small clip, at 16 (I think?). Highly, highly recommended.
Pros: Very similar to the Shipka, dual bullets, good RoF/freeze for price, very low price
Cons: Slightly lower spread than the Shipka, lower clip size (but for $108000 less, this isn't even a con!)
($12000)
III. Medium Budget ($10000-40000)
1. Tec-9 - Great gun for sparrers. The RoF is one of the best, if not the best in the game, alongside the BAR. The spread is high, which makes it even better for sparrers. The only gun I've seen more in spar than the Tec-9 is the M4 - I don't think the M4 is better, it just has different trade-offs than the Tec-9. Great gun, pick if up if you can shell out the money.
Pros: Amazing fire rate, good clip size, large spread.
Cons: Large spread, freeze is a bit high.
*($40000)
2. M16 - Much like the AK, this gun is very low on mobility, but does fire fast (equivalent to that of the Shipka) and does 8 damage. Mainly recommended for PKing/Basing only; this gun is horrible for sparring, and will be frowned upon if you spam, which is the main tactic of this gun.*
Pros: Good for stationary spraying, good for the price, decently high fire rate.
Cons: Low mobility, small clip.
($15000)
Glock-18 - I don't run into this much, and I've got to say, it's one of the best at the 10000-20000 range. Great fire rate, acceptable freeze, and it's automatic. The clip size is decent, but due to the high fire rate, it blows through ammo pretty fast. I can see sparring doable with this gun, and I've seen someone get a 250 streak using only this gun. Pick it up if you're not sure what you want.*
Pros: High fire rate, relatively acceptable freeze, automatic.
Cons: Freeze MAY be too much for some, low accuracy.
($12000)
Colt 6 - I just recently picked this gun up due to BabyGhost's suggestion, and I've got to say - it is a fantastic gun for the price range. Althought it only has 7 damage (8 perfect), it wields one of the lowest freeze rates in the game (maybe the lowest, have to check with Meph) and also one of the highest fire rates in the game, making it extremely mobile when firing. The only real drawbacks I can see are the low clip size and the non-complementary high reload time. It's only a small price to pay for sparrers, but PKers might not enjoy this too much, though I do deem it viable for PKing as I've done it with decent results.
Pros: Extremely low freeze, extremely high fire rate, ani
Cons: High reload time, small clip (6), 8 damage perfect\
*($30000)
IV. High-end Budget
I will be reviewing every gun above $40000, for informational purposes, and at this range, there's going to be trade-offs; meaning no gun will be good at everything.
M4 - Seems to be the most popular gun right now, in and out of the arena. Priced relatively low compared to other high-end guns, it is a great choice for starters; if you're willing to shell out the 55k. Very low freeze and good rate of fire, paired with a decent clip size makes it one of the best bang-for-your-buck guns so far. The #1 choice by sparrers, not so much for basers and PKers, but it will suffice in all areas. Great all-rounder. Its main rival would be the Sten, look there for comparisons.
Pros: Good fire rate, low freeze, very mobile.
Cons: No statistical cons, but some may prefer low accuracy (what the M4 has), some might hate it.
*($55000)
Morano Thompson - Another great gun for PKers, but it doesn't fare too well in the arena. It has a high freeze rate compared to alot of other options at the high-end range, but according to Bboy's Gun Statistics thread, has the highest rate of fire. It does 8 damage, and fires automatically. The freeze rate does get annoying when using full-auto; it's like spraying a Tec9, but slower movement. Because of this, I recommend single-shotting it unless you're spamming in bases or spar. It also comes with a nice little violin case ani to "store the gun" which I guess is pretty cool.*
Pros: Nice violin case ani, best fire rate in the game, high damage for such a fast gun, automatic.
Cons: Freeze is a bit high.
($85000)
Sten - Ah, the Sten - my favorite gun so far in iEra. The Sten has an acceptable freeze rate, good rate of fire, and is automatic. The Sten also has a huge clip size at 32 bullets. I find it good for sparring and PKing/Basing alike, which also makes it a good all-rounder. Its main rival would be the M4; the trade-off would be trading automatic capabilities and a higher clip size (Sten) for single-shot and low freeze (M4). They both have the same rate of fire (if you single-shot OR move while shooting automatically) and damage. Again, the M4 and Sten are overall identical, and you should choose the gun whose traits better suit you.
Pros: Automatic, fast fire rate, good freeze rate, high clip size.
Cons: Fire rate (when automatic) is slowed when shot stationary (standing still).
($65000)
Shipka - It used to be good. The reason not many people like it any more, and why I classify it as a PK gun is due to the fact that the freeze is pretty high, the highest of all the high-end guns. The dual bullets are pretty nice for PKing, as it feels that shots hit a lot more, and the fire rate is equal to that of the Sten or M4. WARNING; the clip cannot shoot 40 times. Taking into account the dual bullets, the clip size is essentially 20, leading a lot of people to "buyers remorse". I would not recommend this, as the Thompson is a much better gun for PKing if used correctly; only buy this if you REALLY need dual bullets.*
Pros: Dual bullet shot.
Cons: High freeze rate, not good price value.
($120000)
PBP Shotgun - Considered by many to be the most OP gun in the game at the moment, surpassing even the BAR in terms of frustration. This gun went FotM after the shotgun changes and now has the potential to deal 16 damage if all four bullets in the spread hit, allowing for crazy damage and spamming potential. The reload time is rather long, but it's unusually high RoF (for a shotgun) almost makes up for it. Overall, it's a really strong gun for basing and even sparring (though frowned upon) with it's large coverage, brutal damage and high RoF.
Pros: High damage at close range, low freeze for a shotgun, good fire rate.
Cons: High reload time for a smaller clip size, subject to harsh criticism by the community
($125000)
BAR - Probably the best PK gun in the game - if you're ready to suck your wallet (or your parents') dry for it. Automatic, 10 damage upgraded, very high rate of fire, but that makes up for what it lacks in freeze. The reload time is also slower than most other guns. Be warned, excessive spraying will be frowned upon by almost everybody in the community. Also highly recommended for basers, but keep it out of the arena if you want to keep your reputation.
Pros: Very good fire rate, 10 damage, automatic, high clip size, acceptable freeze; for the RoF.
Cons: Not very mobile when shooting automatically.
($200000)
AB8 (Released February 2013) - Cost-efficiency taken into consideration, this is probably the worst gun in the game with options like the Sten and M4 directly at and under its price range, respectively. It has considerably higher freeze (think Shipka) and low fire rate in comparison to the Sten. Adding insult to injury, the gun only does 8 damage in perfect shape, essentially making it a slower-RoF version of the 1/2 price Tachi Scorpion. I do not recommend this gun at all, for anything - the Sten is an infinitely better option for 65k in all aspects except for the little skins you can get for the AB8 (that you have to pay for, lmao). If there was ever a gun that I honestly believe required a buff, it's this one.
Update (February 9th, 2013): Not sure when, but either yesterday or today the AB8 was given a buff. It's freeze rate seems to have lowered alongside a clip size increase from 16 to 40. And I'm not sure if this has always been in effect, but the gun now deals 9 damage in perfect shape. I still feel the equally-priced Sten outclasses it because of the difference in rate of fire (everything is now almost similar), but the AB8 seems to have very slightly lower freeze (will confirm this sometime soon™) so I guess it all comes down to a matter of personal preference.
Pros: Automatic, relatively low freeze, 40 clip
Cons: Outclassed by the Sten (slightly), lacking in RoF
($65000)
M8A1 - Another one of the new guns introduced in the infamously overpriced Mephace's Gun Shop. Now, this gun is strange. I wouldn't really say it's overpriced, but it is a different gun in its respective price range. At 65000, it's directly comparable to the AB8 and the ever-ubiquitous Sten and while it is priced equally to the two, it performs much differently. I feel like this gun was geared towards PKing, as the freeze is decently high, but the RoF is rather average. But, here's the kicker - the spread. The spread on the M8A1 is extremely high and inaccurate, allowing for a LOT of coverage when spraying down an area; sounds great for basing if I've ever seen a gun for basing. It packs the standard 8-9 damage, and coupled with it's insane spread, I think many basers and AFK-PKers will find this gun to be great for them.
Pros: Huge spread, 8-9 damage, average RoF
Cons: Above average freeze, average RoF, loosely limited to spray PKing and basing (not too suitable for spar)
