Creating a Server
Introduction I've played a lot of servers on Graal Online and Graal Reborn. Some are amazing like Classic or Atlantis, and others have great potential, but sadly lack direction. I gather ideas from lots of old RPG games I play on my iPod using an emulator. In this guide I'll teach you some valuable tips for making a good server. Storyline A storyline is the foundation of the server. It gives it direction and helps the player out. A good storyline should involve the player remembering past events or stories. It should inform the player about who they are (friends, family, pets, skills, controls, etc). The greatest storylines involve intricate cut-scenes, making the person playing feel like they are watching a movie. When making a storyline make sure it's not too dull and doesn't have a lot of details to remember. I absolutely love storylines where I just a little bit about who I am and begin to find more and more about the story and who I am from talking to people, reading journals and flashback scenes. Character Customization I really, really hate servers that make customizing your character a main aspect of the server. I also don't like it when I start off in a server in a noob outfit, and I haven't even been given a chance to work on my character. I like it when I log in and there is a nice character customization GUI. In my opinion heads and bodies should not cost money. Swords, shields and hats should. I really want to push the whole idea of hats just being little things a merchant may sell you. Swords and shields should be earned by finding or buying a better one. I love how in Zelda you kill a boss or complete a dungeon to get a shiny new sword! NPCs All the NPCs I see these days are complete ******s. I mean seriously, they just say the same thing, 'HI THERE!' I want to see a dynamic NPC that will talk to me depending on different circumstances like outfit, weapons, AP, time and other aspects. When I first find an NPC it's name should be something like Village Girl, once I talk to them and they introduce themselves their name should change to the name they told you, it's a great way to make it feel a lot more realistic. NPCs also shouldn't all look the same, I mean thieves should all wear similar clothes, but not the exact sane thing! It seems like an army of clones on some server. I hate how every shop has the same old man NPC behind the counter. NPCs should also have houses, why is it that most of the ones I meet seem to be homeless? I'll finish more of this after din |

The most important server aspect is an idea. You can't go anywhere unless you have an idea, and you can't be pming other staff members asking "what's an interesting idea for our server" as you write a hiring thread or news post. You also need basic developing skills. Don't expect everybody else to do it for you, because it doesn't work like that. Learn basic leveling, learn how to at least read scripts so you can tell what's going on, learn how ganis work, maybe even graphics. You just have to be able to at least control one focus of development, but you can bring in other staff to control the others if needed. That's if you wanna make a sucessful UC server. If you wanna go classic you need to be the best of the best as it hasn't been reached in several years (except for Maloria a few months ago, but that was quickly removed; it still failed.) |

I think some of that is because it would be very hard to do something like that. I mean, even in the huge game skyrim, the guards all say the same exact thing. So much do that it sparked the "I used to be a adventurer like you, then I took a arrow to the knee" And as for different looking baddys that are the same, that would be possible, but so complex it wouldn't be worth it. I don't think hats and swords and shields should cost money, only upgrades and other items and such. You don't get any upgrade from changing your appearance, Things that do major things should be earned. Not bought. Can you imagine having to pay 100000 ruppees for that new sword instead of doing the dungeon for it? |

Hire staff who are professional and won't cuss out players randomly and be crazy with their staff weapons. Otherwise it ruins your server; people will log on once and hate the server no matter how good you make it.

I like to smoke a lot of crack and that gives me the authority to tell other crack addicts how to run their life.

Best example server for the "movie clips" is classic. That storyline is actually pretty nice. And with your NPCs and the old man: Often, when a server is still under construction, there are NPCs placed, with just some easy look, because the developers want to concentrate on the progress. After such stuff is done, they will take time for the look of the NPCs. That´s also how I do it and how I have seen it on a lot of servers. |
