Yooka-Laylee
If you know me, you know that I think Banjo Kazooie by RareWare is the best video game ever made. Several of the original developers of the game (including some from other RareWare classics like Donkey Kong Country) have come together and are working on a project called Yooka-Laylee. In a nutshell, they got their original team together from Banjo and are creating what I think is Banjo Threeie under a different name. http://www.playtonicgames.com/files/2015/05/Yooka-Laylee_Jungle2a-1280x720.png (Unsupported image host) http://www.playtonicgames.com/files/2015/05/Yooka-Laylee_chasmFlight.png (Unsupported image host) http://www.playtonicgames.com/files/2015/04/Project-Ukulele-Dev-screen21.png (Unsupported image host) http://www.playtonicgames.com/files/2015/04/concept_013.png (Unsupported image host) http://www.playtonicgames.com/files/2015/05/Camobat_Pose_run.png (Unsupported image host) http://www.playtonicgames.com/files/2015/05/Camobat02.png (Unsupported image host) http://www.playtonicgames.com/files/2015/05/Camobat_Pose01.png (Unsupported image host) http://www.playtonicgames.com/games/yooka-laylee/ They put their project on Kickstarter today and met their base goal of about $170,000 in 40 minutes. In the hours since, they have raised over $1,000,000--including $500,000 in the last 30 minutes alone. If you played Banjo or Conker's or DKC, I would definitely recommend listening to the music towards the bottom of that page for some hardcore nostalgia. Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. |

I was excited for this as soon as they announced it, and apparently other people were too. :p Rare's old dev team (Now at Playtonic Games) are honestly masters of creating great characters. Their stuff might even be considered on par with Nintendo's IP, so long as they aren't being strangled by meddling executives at Microsoft. I'm really glad some of them left and re-formed to make a new company. With Kickstarter, they no longer need a major company watching over them to survive, and have full creative freedom. |

I'm not keeping my hopes high. Seems like they're trying to milk the Banjo and Kazooie nostalgia too hard. It'll probably turn out like Mighty Number Nine. Overpromised, overfunded, underdelivered.
