Naruto is a phenomenal anime and I enjoyed every episode. By no means is it for nerds or weaboos, just because we love anime and want to be japanese and pretend we are and try and learn japanese doesn't mean we're weaboos!!

You should NEVER mock the sharingan. You don't know what forces you're dealing with, the sharingan is the most powerful visual prowess to exist.
The Sharingan grants the wielder two broad abilities: the "Eye of Insight" (洞察眼, Dōsatsugan) and the "Eye of Hypnotism" (催眠眼, Saimingan). Although the abilities are not literally restricted to certain eyes, Madara Uchiha noted that the Sharingan can only be used to its full potential when both eyes are together.
The user can see chakra, giving it colour in order to distinguish it by its composition and source.[15] Though not as capable in this regard as the Byakugan, it can see chakra through some (but not all) obstructions[16] and detect irregularities in a person's chakra flow, such as those caused by genjutsu influence.
The user is granted incredible clarity of perception, enabling them to read lips or mimic something like pencil movements. In combat, this allows them to see fast-moving objects and, once fully developed, offers some amount of predictive capabilities: they can anticipate an opponent's next move based on the slightest muscle tension in their body and act accordingly to dodge or intercept. Although a Sharingan user can see these things, they also need the physical ability to actually act on the visual information.

Multiple targets can be taken control of in this way, though the more divided the user's attention is, the easier it is for targets to escape this control.
While not an ability per se, the Sharingan user can appear as if they are able to "see the future". First, the user must perfectly mimic every move their opponent makes and possibly their thoughts and words through careful observation. When Sasuke was seven years old, the relationship between Itachi and his father deteriorated after Itachi was questioned by other members of the Uchiha clan regarding the apparent suicide of his best friend, Shisui. As Itachi's behaviour became increasingly bizarre, Sasuke's father began spending more time with Sasuke, and began teaching him the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique, a common family technique seen as a sign of coming of age in the Uchiha clan. When Sasuke first tried to perform the technique, he only produced a small flame and after that, some smoke. His father said that Itachi was able to do it on his first try at Sasuke's age, which disappointed him. Later, with one week of training, Sasuke performed the technique in front of his father, proving himself a prodigy as well in his own right and finally receiving his father's individual recognition rather than comparison to Itachi. Sasuke's father told him that he could now proudly wear the clan's emblem on his back. Following this, Sasuke also received a stern warning not to follow in Itachi's footsteps any further, surprising him as before, he was told to be like him; and his father showing he was proud of Sasuke for the first time the same way as he used to with Itachi.

So, let me start this off by saying I like anime. I like anime a lot. With very few exceptions, I prefer to watch anime in the original Japanese, and because I'm not exactly fluent in the language, I watch it with English subtitles.

I have been called a weeaboo for this multiple times (as well as some of my friends), because of the argument "if you don't speak Japanese and it's been dubbed into English just watch it in English", but that doesn't fly with me very well and generally just pisses me off. As an example: I really like Naruto. I refuse to watch Naruto in English, simply because... have you ever heard Naruto's English voice? It's like taking a nail file to your eardrums. Most English dubs of anime series are just... well, so insanely horrible that I literally can't watch it. (Except Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z, which are painful in both languages.)

The comparison that I've always drawn is with opera, actually. The vast majority of operas were not written in English, though I know several people who speak nothing but English and enjoy opera (I'm one of them). A lot of these have been dubbed into English on DVDs, strange as it may be, but most people prefer to watch them in the original Italian or German or whatever language with English subtitles. Why is this okay when it's not okay to do the same thing with anime?
