Let's just get this out of the way. Everything has their pros and cons. Nobody is saying this would 100% guarantee ours or the schools safety. For all we know, that same teacher given the firearm could even pull the trigger on a student if he handed in his work late or came in late to class. What do you guys think?

No.  

Using guns as a deterrent to potential gun violence isn't going to solve anything.

Its like back in the Cold War, building more nukes isn't going to prevent nuclear war but increase the intensity of it should it actually take place.

Also, I wouldn't trust 99% of teachers with a gun to protect me or anybody.

I've got teachers old enough to be my great-grandparents so they'll be super helpful when in a dangerous situation like a school shooting.  

Guns don't kill people.

Why is this even up for debate? Guns shouldn't be a thing in schools, if safety is what the situation is increase security.  

Isn't that why we have cops in school?

Problem is there's usually only one, and they can often be targeted first if someone wants to cause mass casualty. They're also sometimes not the best people for protecting kids... I agree with arming teachers, but they would need a lot of checks and protections. Teachers would have to work full-time, no substitutes could have guns. They would need to go through required gun safety and usage training, plus go through a yearly psych evaluation. Plus guns would need to be locked away at all times in a secure drawer or cabinet, and teachers could not be forced to do it, only if they choose to. Plus the obvious background check at the beginning.

Yeah my school has this one cop that keeps an eye on things but usually she's just talkin with the teachers not really doing anything.

I think its sort of redundant since that cop could be out in the field possibly dealing with more important matters than babysitting highschool students.  

I don't know about you, but about 90% of my teachers in highschool were gun hating liberals. I do however support more schools having SRO's, its just a much better and more logical alternative.

In my highschool had a cop. It was mainly because we had student parking and people would speed of just be stupid drivers.

Plus I live in Texas. We love them guns.

But my school really wasn't ghetto. We had school fights every so often. We had security as well. Mainly to make sure outside people don't get in and well kids skipping.
