My time has long passed since I've developed anything on Graal and so I thought with the slim chances of it ever happening, I'd release the document of a project I was going to work on. It's up for anyone's server if you'd like to use it - just a storyline WIP about the urban legend "Billy the Kid" to add more mystery to the ever growing world of Ol'West Please tell me what you think about it if you do take the time to read it!
// The quest is based off of real documented events regarding the outlaw 'Billy the Kid' (an actual urban legend outlaw of the Ol'West period). Players will need to research the history and facts about Billy the Kid to progress through the quest.
// The prize I plan to be is a HS item due to requests from players for a demand of more HS weapons/guns in the store. Most likely a pistol of sorts of the high-highest tier. Stats TBD.
• Quest will only be activated if the player of the quest has the sufficient quantity of HorseShoes that is the equivalent to the price of the prize. This means that they cannot talk to the following activation NPC to progress through the quest; they must have - for example: 50 HS before activating the quest.
• Player starts by meeting an NPC in the sheriff's building at start called 'Sheriff Garett' (The killer and legend - author of Billy the Kid). Here Sheriff Garett will explain to the player that he has put a bounty out for the killer of Sheriff Tunstall. 'Additionally, he is believed to have been involved in the heist of the local bank.' The bounty on this man is ridiculously high and infiltrating the ranks of his crew - the Regulators will be the best way to find out who killed the Sheriff. We do not know which member of the Gang killed Sheriff Tunstall, but whoever did it needs to pay the price.
• After talking to the Sheriff, a flag is added to activate the next step to the quest. This flag gives the player access to a new area in the 'Bank' base in the first room (provides no basing advantage that way, this room is completely irrelevant and out of the way from the actual basing). There is a hole in the wall, inside is a room of deputies and investigators with a trail of gold coins leading out to where the hole in the wall is (the entrance). Multiple safes, generally decorated as the inside of a vault. Player will activate the next step by finding a 'sombrero' style hat in the corner (the hat Billy the Kid has reportedly been seen wearing in his time as an outlaw) with a say2 command on touching the hat; "The Kid".
• A new building on the gmap (one of the empty levels) will be called 'Fritz Ranch'. Players will only get access to this ranch if they have touched the hat. Inside will be a dead outlaw, named 'Frank McNab' and an injured NPC at the bar of the ranch called 'Ab Saunders'. Miscellaneous dead bodies will be scattered around the ranch with the addition of bullet holes for added effect. The player must interact with the wounded NPC at the bar (Ab Saunders) where he will say this;
'Agh...stay away...Seven Rivers scum...wait, you're not from the Seven Rivers posse? Well you must be looking for trouble if you're here...my boss over there is dead, boy. And the crooks we were fighting just abducted my crew mate - Frank Coe. We are from 'the Regulators', formerly known as 'the Boys'. Yeah, we are the outlaws who robbed the bank. The Seven Rivers posse is a group of corrupt Sheriff's and Deputies that are just in it for the bloodlust...I suspect that they will be locking Frankie boy up with the Kid to make it look like a legal procedure before they execute them. They made the fight here look like a rival gang shootout, and now our boss is dead. You know boy, if you can break Frankie boy and the Kid out of the Sheriff's lockup, we would be mighty grateful. I would help myself, but I'm too injured to help...I'm sorry. Wear this hat to disguise yourself when walking past the Sheriffs and Deputies'
This will automatically add the same hat found in the bank to the player.
• The player will find Frank Coe locked up in a cell with 'Billy the Kid' and must kill 2 guard NPC's solo, the death of one of the guards will notify the player at the bottom of their screen: 'You have found the key to the cell!' And add a flag to the player. Upon opening the cell to the Regulators crew mates, Frank Coe will say:
'Ab sent you? Well I'll be damned boy, you have some mighty fine shooting skills. Meet me and Ab back at the ranch, we have to plot vengeance against whoever killed the boss.'
If the player tries talking to 'the Kid' it will just reply '...'.
•Back at the Fritz Ranch, Ab Saunders and Frank Coe will be at the bar, uninjured and the dead body of Frank McNab gone. The Kid will not be at the ranch.
Frank Coe:
'Thanks again for saving the Kid and I, boy. I must warn you about the Kid though, he was orphaned at 15 - not a talkative fella' if im honest. He can be charming one second, and then your worst nightmare the next. He's become a loose cannon lately, but let's not talk about that - talk to Ab.'
Ab Saunders:
I heard you got a good shot boy, that's good. We want you to help us get vengeance on the coward who killed McNab. His name is Manuel Segovia, an Indian who somehow made his way up the ranks on Cowboy territory. You see, the people of this town know the faces of the regulators. The Kid has the biggest bounty in history over his head and the rest of us won't do no good out in public. We need you to assassinate Segovia for us. We don't know where he spends his free time, but I know he visits his folks over at the Indian territory every now and then...your best bet to kill him would be then and there. Good luck partner.'
// This part strays slightly from the original Billy The Kid story to suit the Cowboy v Indian theme of the server, it also helps prepare the player for the boss of Billy The Kid.
• Manuel Segovia is found in a new Indian tent in Indian Territory (only accessible after the player has talked to Ab Saunders at the Fritz bar) - a say2 message will say:
'That hat...he's part of the Regulators! Kill him!'
The player will then have to fight 3 NPC baddies, 2 being normal War indians and Manuel Segovia being a mediocre boss fight. Upon the death of Manuel Segovia, the player retrieves an item: the head of Segovia.
• The player returns the head to Ab Saunders at the Fritz Bar, where in reply Ab says:
'My boy...you have done good for us, how would you like to be part of the Regulators? Well I don't care what you say anyway, you don't have a choice. I'm going to put down a few ground rules and our purpose here; the rules are there are no rules. No mercy, no regret, just violence and cold murder. Our objective is to theive from the rich and kill all who stand in our way - especially the law enforcement. Our boy, the Kid, we found him when he was 16. He was a broken soul, his father left at a young age and his mother died the death of tuberculosis. He was left bitter and angry, we channelled his anger into power. Now he's got the biggest bounty in the history of America for killing 21 men and Sheriff Tunstall. Why do you think there are 22 graves in the graveyard next to here? That weren't no funeral, that's my boy covering up his murders.'
• The player must then visit Sheriff Garett back at the Sheriff's building at start.
Sheriff Garett:
'The outlaw we are looking for is 'the Kid'? Thanks for helping us identify the outlaw son, we will have to track down his coordinates and finish this dangerous man once and for all.'
• Through research, the player will find that the actual death coordinates of Billy the Kid is:
32 degrees 24'13''N 104 degrees 11'37''W
There will be a feint 'X' mark somewhere on the gmap where the player will have to stand when following these coordinates; 37 steps North from this spot and 48 steps West.
In consequence to following this, the player will enter a secret room built into something (TBD) where the Kid and his associates Ab Saunders + Frank Coe are heisting/storing money.
Frank Coe: 'How did you find this place boy? Have you been talking to the pigs?'
Ab Saunders: 'Traitor!'
• The kid will stand inactive and idle whilst the player must kill Frank Coe and Ab Saunders. Upon completion, Billy the Kid's name will be revealed;
'Me llamo es Billy. ¿Quién es atreverse tratar de matarme?'
An epic boss fight will commence like the others, yet Billy will use his own special gun and have a lot more health than the other bosses. Upon his death, you retrieve the head of Billy the Kid.
• Return the head to Sheriff Garett where he will say this;
'Thank you for killing the outlaw and helping the town back to peace again. The regulators were not totally wrong, I'm afraid to admit that most of us are corrupt. The bounty i offered for the kid's death is non-existent. His gun is to be kept as evidence, unless you have a little something that could compensate for 'missing evidence'. I'm sorry it has to be like this after your hard work, but I make the rules around here.
• Billy the Kid's gun can then be found on the counter of the sheriff's department building once the player has defeated Billy the Kid. The cost is planned to be in HS so that the item could actually be used as a competitive item instead of just a toy; no free items should be strong enough to compete with the higher tier weapons.
I'm really liking this quest of yours Clown, since this would add another quest for the players to do, although I'm not really liking the ideas of taking their heads off as part of a key item though... Maybe changing it to a special mark of theirs instead of their heads?
