City Year?
I'm senior that gonna be graduating in June and I don't know what to do after school :/ I'm planning on taking a gap year to think about my future and I was looking online to see what some people do for a gap year. I came across this organization that some people do during their gap year. It's a organization that helps kids in high poverty schools. It sounds like its fun but I'm wondering if anyone been or know someone that's been in it, that can tell more about what's it about and is it worth it? https://www.cityyear.org/ |

I'm no expert but one would think you'd lose a vast amount of your knowledge if you took a gap year before going back to school What are some of your primary interests? |

As for my knowledge leaving me, I looked into it. It's the opposite. http://time.com/97065/gap-year-college/ |

you live in the US so i suggest you find something you care about before committing to it, its pointless to force yourself to study something only to regret it with some **** debt piled on top of it for no reason

I wouldn't recommend a gap year. Yea, school may suck, but you're in the routine. Taking a gap year may just make it even harder to get back into the school routine for when you go to to college, and may affect your performance because of it. You don't need to know what you want to do when you go to college. In fact, I'd recommend for your first semester to just take the intro courses for any and every subject that interests you. Half of the requirements for most college majors are general requirements anyways, so you can knock those out for the first 2-3 years before even doing your major classes if you want.

I don't know about City Year, but go ahead and take the gap year. You said you were already planning on taking it, so you'll regret it in your heart if you just go back to school right away. I agree with Crono, the debt is no laughing matter. I'd say it's better to take the time to really find yourself and cement your goals in life into your mind rather than go right back into schooling just so that you don't get out of the routine. That's my opinion anyways, although I don't have any lofty goals that require lots of schooling.

Don't expect to be a lawyer right away. If you want a good job in the legal section you should start small, local governments, local shops. From there work your way up. I don't know how it is for other degrees but I can see this working in a similaat fashion. Save as much money as you can When doing shopping avoid A-brands and excessive purchases. It's honestly shocking how much money you can save by skimping a lil' here 'n there.
