Then that was after my time.
I can't really argue what other people mean when they say Graal the Adventure. What you're saying makes sense since no one really had to differentiate Graal The Adventure from anything else before then, but regardless that was Graal's name for ages.
How exactly did Karlia work back then? I was too young to know the details probably. I do know that other servers were a part of Graal since well before that, the (limited) g-server was around when I first started playing, and the old clients always let you put in any ip to any server.
I think we're talking about completely different time periods in Graal, when I say early 2000s I mean literally 00-02. Then and before people just refered to the game as a whole as "Graal the Adventure" when giving the full title.

Back then Stefan publically posted the g-server and people hosted servers on their own computers. Most of them were fairly small/personal. Some of them were a bit popular and there were "warps" on the main Graal server(Graal - the Adventure. Realize though this name, while accurate, really wasn't what it was called. We just called it Graal, or "official Graal" and it didn't really
have a name because it was the only server. Mainly it was just referred to as official. Now though it makes more sense to just call it Classic). You'd enter a door or touch a portal and you were warped to another server.
However being able to connect to other servers via IP was implemented fairly early. I know my copy of 1.41 lets you do so, and that's dated back to 2000.
What you'd do is simly put in the ip/url of the server you wanted to log into. This predated server lists and even forums, so unless you knew the ip there was no way to find a server. Typically server info was passed around via word of mouth or a playerhouse containing the ip/url info.
As for what I remember about what periods:
> 1999/2000 is when I started playing. Classic was the only server I knew of because it was the default server to log into. Server at this point was mostly player-content driven. Houses, quests and even entire towns were entirely made by players. GPs were also introduced around this time, I remember when they were "added." It was the only staff that existed. There were no development staff or anything, just GP. If content was to be added, it was if you made it and submitted it and it was reviewed and liked/passed prerequisites. Towns like Destiny, Avalon and so on were all made like this. This is the server I actually played and the version I am most familiar with.
> 2000-2001 Stefan no longer worked on Classic and instead put time into side projects like New World and eventually Graal 2001. This also marked the introduction of NPC-servers and such, and the P2P feature(g-servers were no longer freely distributed). However NPC-servers weren't mandatory for servers until around 2004 or something. A lot like the conversion from GS1 to GS2. I still played a little around this time but I also started getting into development more and played less. Forums were also released at this time as well.
> 2002 or so was when the early version of G2k2 was released. Fun ****... but sadly became Graal Kingdoms.
> 2003 or so I quit graal for quite a long time. I popped in every now and then but that's it. This is when Tyhm really started changing Classic and it's what we all know as "Graal the Adventure." This conversion may have started a little bit earlier, but like I said I didn't actually play much around this time.
And then from there I didn't really "play" much, just developed so whatever happened on Classic escapes me. You'd be better off asking one of the more active players from around that time frame like Rufus or possibly Crono.
Sorry I went on a bit of a long tangent here. Hard to cover years of history in a brief manner O.o even if it wasn't necessary.
