So I made a quick sketch of a gmap concept
It's basically three gmaps and there's a story behind each one of them. The first level is "old skyworld" which is pretty much just the ruins of the current skyworld. Then there's the "the ghetto" version of a skyworld, following close to the typical futuristic ghetto. My idea behind this was that it got overrun by gang, or squad, activity, and there's ai enemies that you can kill, ultimately gaining experience and level up. I think it would be cool if the ai were giant mechs and small bots. Anyway, the third level, the "new skyworld", is an elegant combination of nature and man made marvels, including large statues and trees and such, but with a futuristic vibe at the same time, much like the fallout 4 pic posted earlier, then in the center of it all is the pvp arena. I reckon the arena would be pretty massive with obsticles and small buildings, in order to emphasize the shooter experience. This arena would be based off the Tron style, and I think all in all it would be pretty badass. Also, a few bases in the arena wouldn't hurt for competition. As the population grew, so did each level of Skyworld, but like any other population, it fails at some point hence why new ones were created atop the other, which is also why the entirety has a cone shape.
Now, if there was a legitimate story mode on the server, here's how I think it should go:
You obviously start on level 3, which you learn the basics of Zone like any other game. Once you're ready, you prepare to enter level 2, which is obtained by going through a treacherous path of hallways, tunnels and giant ventilation systems. Do whatever it is you have to do on level three, then move on --
Now, you're probably wondering why level 1 wasn't overrun by mechs. There was previously a civil war, causing skyworld to split into two. The new skyworld built itself above level 1, sealing it off and losing any remaining contact from the new civilization on level 2. Eventually, the new skyworld was sort of failed as population grew, and started building the new new skyworld atop of level 2 to support the growth. Favoritism caused level 2 to be overrun by gang activity, while level 3 thrived, until now. Level 3 is now experiencing down fall, which is why you need to clear level 2 of gang activity to not only make more room for a worthwhile population, but to also reach level 1 to make even more room. When you reach level 3, you expect a deserted ruin of the old skyworld, but upon entering, you find out the old skyworld actually did survive the civil war and desertion.
I have more ideas for the story further on, and the map, but it probably isn't worth typing an additional five paragraphs to explain them.
What do you guys think? I sort of built the gmap off Elk's concept early on. Is something along these lines plausible or is it not worth it and/or are my ideas crap?
I actually just got a cool idea for the story. Same thing, you are sent to level 2 to clear for more room for the expanding population, but they also send you to level 1 to prepare the jets for stage two of fuel, since stage one is nearing the end, causing two waves of chaos and decisions.
