@Pimpsy, look at the bigger picture; I actually agree with you, that it's the people's fault for drug abuse. But that's just the issue. The mistakes that one person makes never happens to only one person. My arguement to fp4 can apply to you too-

Well yes, this part of the debate would be considered my political opinion. I'm saying that we can't always trust people to make the right decisions. It's ideal to have a margin so that less(I recognize that banning will not prevent all drug abuse activity) people make the wrong choices, and people capable of being responsible can enjoy their liberty, but sometimes it's just not possible. I think this is the case with legalizing drugs such as cocaine and marijuana for public access.

You can apply the story to other scenarios as well. If all drugs were legalized, what if a good natured person with a promising career had a hard day? They normally don't like the idea of cocaine, but decide to go for a round, go on a little adventure. If they like it, which is likely, they'll go for more. It starts to affect their lives and people around them. It could potentially ruin their career, everything if they're not careful. This won't happen once-- everyone has a bad day right? It's a ripple effect. What collectively affects our lives, from a rise in meat prices to bullying because of one's sexuality affects our country. The way I see it, drug abuse will do the same.

It doesn't matter who you are, if you're involved in a democracy, you will pay, one way or another, for another person's mistakes. If the majority of people get involved with drugs because it's more available, then we're going to have a problem, because drug abuse branches out to a bunch of ethical and economic problems.

It's not even that I think people aren't capable of controlling their drug intake. If you give 3 people a red button and tell them not to push it, then they might not. Now if you give it to a group of 1 million people to not push the red button, then it's going to be a little crazier. Replace the red button with drug abuse. There you go.  

I use to smoke it every now and then because it relieved my stress. Now stopped using it because I found out they ask questions about your illegal drug history in a Polygraph Test to become Police Officer :[

I smoked it twice because I wanted to. You can't control addiction. But you "want" to smoke marijuana,not "need" to.  

I hate cigarettes, all the "kool swaggers" smoke it at my school.

It's a scientific fact that the human body is susceptible to addiction from ANY drug. When a body gets used enough to a certain substance, it will adapt and start to rely on that substance. This can even happen in caffeine. Whether you realize it or not, the 'want' is the 'need'.

Yet that argument would mean making alcohol and cigarettes illegal. There's nothing wrong with smoking marijuana in moderation, you can't get physically addicted to marijuana so its all mental. People smoke pot for the feeling the same way a lot of people drink hard liquor for the feeling. That doesn't make them addicts or make them useless to society.

Also, at the moment marijuana itself isn't the danger its what it could be laced with. If you don't know who your buying it from you could get some bad bud. Also, growing it would probably be the best option if it was legal.  

I never said I wasn't against alcohol or cigarettes.

I support decriminalization. if someone grows some in their backyard and wants to smoke it, who are you to take that away from them. There's a reason it's called weed, it's easy to grow. However, we really don't need companies marketing it, or really even having it sold in shops, besides for medical purposes.
