I would have also guessed they changed the file to change the gralat colour too, but since they repeatedly clicked the gralats to show their values, it makes it all the more believable.

I found the link to it on an old thread with a subject similar to this, but I will try find it on YouTube for you.  

You can't hack gralats by switching the files of the gralat images such as the green and black one. A green gralat may appear as black to you, but it would still only be worth 1-4 and appear green to everyone else.

Just like hat hacking, you appear to be wearing the desired hat, but if no one else can see it then what's the point.  

I'm aware. I consider these lite client hacks.

He said youtube videos. So as long as no one tapped clicked on it, it's a possibility.
