The Ouya: A new 'next gen' gaming console. - 2

Apparently, the new console, "Ouya" is launching in 2013 as a competitor. It is completely open and allows developers to do whatever they want on their console. And it even encourages hacking. All games must be free, as in a demo with an optional purchase option for the full version or using the free to play model. I'm not sure if this will be a success, but it definitely is an alarm that "Free to play" is a definite direction that the gaming industry is moving towards considering at the time of this writing it is getting $1000 donated to it on kickstarter PER SECOND. I'm not personally a fan of the idea but it does seem to be a significant movement in the industry. What do you think? Also, check out its kickstarter page and the video on it:

If all the games are free to play...will they all just be small games like on iOS or Android?

I can't see any developer putting time into a full fledged game in hopes that some people might pay for in-game transactions, or add-on content.
Unless it will just be stuffed full of pre-existing games tacked on with addons and such.

I just want to see what types of games will be on here, and if it will just be an upsized App Store.

Team fortress 2 went free to play. its amazing. So is tribes: Ascend, black light:Retribution, and pretty much every mmo on the market. You seriously haven't heard of any quality free to play games?

It's worth mentioning that Tribes and Black Light would be in the gutter without being pushed every single day by people like STAR.

Everything in that is pretty much BS meant to bait the unaware. Not that I feel that this OUYA is going to get off the ground, but it's senseless to spread baseless accusations, especially one as serious(and unfounded) as scamming.

If they can keep it priced at $90-100 and it functions well as a media box (Netflix, 1080p streaming) and also plays games/emulators (hopefully without any kind of modding) and provides developers an in-expensive console platform to test it's games I think it's great.

It's definitely not going to be a PS3/360/Wii killer but if I was choosing to buy an Apple TV, Revo, similar media box, or this OUYA gaming console. I would probably go with the OUYA.

$1 million doesn't sound like very much when you're talking about mass-production hardware and distribution...

3.3 million now, will probably hit 4 million$ tonight. Its estimated to top off at around $15 million.
