I think it has a lot to do with the implementation. Because guild hats are added to accounts, rather than guilds, it encourages all kinds of shady practices. Things like creating/throwing away guilds to get another set of 1k hats, or removing/adding members so friends and such get the hat instead of the guild members who achieved it.

Guilds as a whole need some major revamping. Things should be rewarded to the guilds themselves and not the player accounts. Maybe then players won't consider guilds so disposable.

Perhaps if there was some way to 'rate' guilds, or to give them some sort of value that would make people think twice about deleting them or using members as filler. Ways to increase your rating of course would be, guild spar score and tower hours, GST wins maybe, but also the members in your guild, how long they've been in the guild and how consistent they are in being involved in it. I think that should be the largest component of that, just in my opinion. If a guild doesn't have a lot of member consistency, you could probably determine that if you join, there's a chance you might not be there for long. Something simple that makes players want to stick to the guilds their in, instead of chasing incentives.

that is why I dislike tower guilds for the hats.

Since people who already have a 1k hat abuse it and keep doing it. I am glad there isn't a limit to what last guild can get it since those butt holes would abuse it and keep at and keep at it. To abuse it badly.

Thallen, although I agree that a guild can still have a 1k hat and have fun, the hat shouldn't be the main thing. If somebody is only in the guild for the hat, and nothing else, they should re-evaluate their scenario. I liked towering because it was a place to meet friends, talk, and have fun. What I'm saying is that you should not tower if you hate it, just to get a hat.

Dusty, the hat reward should honestly be 2.5k. Then maybe people wouldn't consider guilds disposable. When you think about it, recycled guilds still offer benefits. 5 1k guilds = 5 png hats, 125 people. 1 5k guild = 1 gif hat, 1 png hat, 75 people. I would rather have 4 extra PNG hats than one gif.

So there have been some changes to rules involving guild hats on classic...so this is gonna be fun...

Main thing is, animated 1k hats (GIF format) will no longer be allowed. 1k hats are now required to be in PNG format (just a plain, stationary hat). But before you flip that table, let me say that animated hats will be allowed once you reach 5k guild hours.

I apologize to those of you who might have already been working on a flamboyantly animated hat for a guild that has reached 1k. Maybe you could save it for when the guild reaches 5k.

what you're failing to understand is that receiving a hat in no way correlates with how much fun it is or isn't

your statement makes it seem like that, by rewarding someone, the "fun" is taken out of towering
it isn't, people are just materialistic and enjoy getting some sort of reward for their effort, and that's normal

it's as if you (and many others, so let's not make it seem as if I'm singling you out) truly believe that a tower guild can only have fun if they decide to not give out a hat
that makes absolutely 0 sense to me


that's such an inconsiderate thing to say though, slow down and think about it

the leader of the guild is a single person, and the guild itself is a single property that the leader owns
the leader's significance to the guild is obviously high, but no one can argue against the fact that it's the members who make a tower guild successful
if they will not put in work and tower, the guild does not reach it's goal

I just don't understand why it's apparently so wrong for members of the guild to want some sort of compensation and token of appreciation for their efforts
like, "hey bro, I came online every day and spent hours of my life putting time and effort into a guild that you own, the least you can do is give me a little hat as a way to show that you appreciated it"

But it's sad how people who pk them because the dispise their race like "HAHAH ARAB GTFO NOOB! YOU SPEND MORE TIME GETTING BOMBS THAN GETTING GOOD WIFI." I mean just because they enjoy towering doesn't mean people gotta be a douche and be racist. Maybe people do like getting awarded and feel that they need to be awarded for their work. People who get awarded generally feel better. When I win trivia I feel good that I won something. I don't see why people get all butthurt just because people want a digital hat to make them feel proud that they earned something that looks good. Like hats are million dollar prizes, they're not even real too. People spend too much time complaining about people towering new guilds with the same people when they really just want to tower. The leaders do different towers over and over because they know people won't continue helping after 1k. So they do it over.

I don't know anything about that guild, but this is what should have happened:

1. The leader should have (if they didn't) made it clear at the start of the guild that there would be no rewards
2. They should have expected a bit of nagging at the 1000-hour milestone, and should have known how to handle it (friends only, blocking, etc.)

If that was done and people still complained and acted as if they were robbed, then it's their problem

It should be made 100% clear at 0 though, because the expectation going into any new guild is that there will be rewards when they are supposed to be offered

Which brings me to question why this guild leader did not offer rewards. Were they too lazy to find a good hat maker? Did they not appreciate the help of their members and feel they deserved something? I mean, the leader got their material prize, which is permanent ownership of a guild with high hours, so what about the members?

To me, there are a few reasons to not offer your guild a hat when they're supposed to get it, and they all suck:

1. You're a guild that is going to progress past the 1000-hour milestone and you're too much of a pansy to separate the 25 highest-contributing players from the others, and you want to use everyone until you hit your 5000+ goal without offending them, but then at 5000 you decide you want to give out the rewards all at once anyway, and then people end up still getting screwed (which is what you'll eventually see become of Vintage)
2. You are hypnotized by this popular notion of "IF YOU GET A HAT, THAT MEANS YOU DIDN'T DO IT FOR FUN" (stupid)
3. You're self-centered and see it as if you should be the only one getting rewarded
4. You're lazy

I can't really think of any other reason why you'd refuse to do it
It's like winning the GST and then the guild leader claims the members can't pick a hat… why?

It's definitely not wrong to not offer a hat if it's something you've made very clear from the start, I just personally can't understand why you'd ever want to do that

It was made clear at the start that there would be no 1k hat, and the leader even clarified that they were just leading the guild for fun and that they would possibly go to 5k, even. The leader got the clarification from his guild, and his members said "ok we got it, thanks."

1,000 hours later, these same members still spammed the leader's inbox with random hats and pleaded for a 1k, after these people were kicked and blocked they got on noob accounts and started spamming. The leader even changed his email and they still somehow found it. Eventually even leaders who were taught how to handle the situation started complaining for a hat, and eventually the leader just wanted everything to stop, so eventually he just picked a random hat and distributed it. After that 95% of the guild left.

Also, the hat isn't everything. Sure, it's a nice prize and a fun accomplishment, but honestly I could do without them. Why? Because those guilds that just recycle guilds over and over again for 1k hat after another personally annoy me, because it's the chain guilds that turned the 1k hat into a generic prize, which is why I personally do not find the 1k hat very special anymore. Also, people who don't plan to give out a prize at 1k don't mean to do it because they don't feel like thanking their members, or because they're lazy, but mainly because at times guilds would actually just tower for fun.  

Those arguing how 1k hats should be removed because they have no 'value' makes no sense to me at all, whether you're a 'hat chaser' or you worked hard and put in your time for that hat you have the right to be rewarded for it, blame the leader for their decisions in who gets the hat but no way should they remove it

As for this update, it's a great move. It provides an incentive now to go for 5k and really seperates the value between a normal hat and an animated hat, sort of like a shiny card vs a normal one in Hearthstone.

This update also provides a foundation on the value between gif hats and normal ones, gif hats can now be considered 'rarer', so for the future perhaps animated hats are charged more than normal ones, or perhaps even there could be an option in shops to buy a gif version of the same hat for a higher price. Just thoughts though

good finally hat makers have a chance to make a normal ****ing hat. I'm sick of noob guilds getting 1k and asking for a hat that breathes out fire and electricty comes out of eyes and then turns rainbow and wings have to flap and the helmet has to shine. ****ing noobs. Thank you <3

Are you serious, nobody does 5k hour hats, like the only people who actually do 5k hour hats are like the ldr and the ldrs Bfffls. Does this mean you people aren't gonna sell gif hats because the fact that most of graal hats are surprisingly awful given the fact you are taking gif away is pretty sad. But I guess it's preventing lag, but if you want to fix lag why not just make the area near giant blob spawn invisible. This is pretty dumb. What's next you are gonna take away the ability to make gif heads or probably get rid of custom heads and bodies overall. You might as well fire the entire Gfx staff to and just hire people who put edit heads in their status because that's pretty much what to expect without gif.
