The odds have not changed, so I don't see why people think that suddenly 1/3000 chance is much worse than it was. The difference is the odds are distributed among all the players fairly, rather than a select few always getting into them.

So yes... for players who were able to regularly get into events it may seem worse, but for players who never got in before their chances may be higher. I mean... there was an entire guild dedicated to winning events, and they were almost always getting into the events.

And finding the warper was part of the event in my opinion. It doesn't matter whether or not newer players have the chance to join, because they won't win anyways. They are new, and a experienced player will always win. Unless it's chance.

Yes, but how has this changed because of the Event Queue? Even with event doors there's still 30 players out of 3000 getting into the event.

Just doesn't make since to have 3000 players online and only let 30 of them participate in an event at once when you can easily handle more. That especially goes for events that dont require much management by staff to host (chance, races, etc.)

I mostly see events being hosted for 50-60 players. Just keep in mind the lag created from event doors isn't the doors themselves, but the players clustering in the same level. Hosting an event with a ton of participants would cause the same lag issue.

I don't think they care too much if they win, the point is they actually got to experience an event and it was fun.

What about people who never got into events before and still can't seem to be picked for a queue? It's unfair to them as well.

It's the opposite of unfair, considering they had an equal chance of being picked.

Now I'm not saying the Event Queue is a flawless system... but up until that point there was no hosting at all. Given the limitations of the server, I can't think of many alternatives.

It hasn't, that wasn't what I was suggesting at all, I'm in support of whatever method Classic is using to gather players for events I just don't think it picks up enough players.

I think what I'm saying may be off topic, or there was just some miscommunication between us.

Other servers seem to be able to manage it? There is usually a bit of intense lag for a few seconds when all the players are warped, but it smooths out pretty fast and the event isn't really effected.  

I agree with MrSimons to an extant, but I also understand the limitations of the server brought up by Dusty. I think, though, a compromise should be looked into. Because I agree that that the playerbase is just too big nowadays. And not enough people get a chance to get into events, even if the queue system gives everyone a fair chance.

As I mentioned in another thread, I would like to see more non-queue admin events. Hide n' seek, buried treasure, trivia, etc. At least with these events, everyone can be included.  

I think that 'fair' doesn't cut it with a random pull of less than 0.1% of a population. Everyone is going to feel kind of frustrated when half of the players online push the queue button and (relatively close) to 'none' get in.
Not to say that it isn't a valid temporary band-aid-type fix, but I feel that we need to all get a chance based on how many hats we have already...

I think that there should be a rotation, so everyone gets a turn in the event queue, and that it could be an invitation to the event, instead of a free-for-all lottery. More specifically, each player should be able to get into one event per week... or one event per month... limit the number of times that they can participate in a given time period in order to increase the chances of everyone getting a chance.

That sounds like a really bad solution, the current system is fair as is, the problem is that not enough people can get in to make it feel like a fair situation.

You could have to pay a certain amount (like maybe 200?) to enter an event. That would definetly wither down the amount of people joining, increase compettetion, as well as make money for the server.

I would like another way to spend money than on hats

But if you win you get a hat. So ultimately you still are spending money on hats.

I wouldn't really care that isn't the point. The point is I haven't been in an event since the new system was introduced, and I have clicked that thing now well more than over 100 times. Events are really fun, and it sucks never being able to participate in them anymore. If you add a gralat charge, the que will still definetely get filled and it will more likely be people who are not complete noobs who do not know what they are doing.

It is just a suggestion to lower the amount of people joining events.

The idea of a bunch of spawners being scattered around the world is actually pretty neat. However, spawning items randomly around the overworld isn't necessarily the easiest thing to do. More importantly, spawning them in accessible areas is very difficult, see Easter Eggs for examples of this flaw. If you need 64 players in an event, it may need to spawn quite a lot of "warpers" to ensure that enough are actually reliably accessible to the players. There's also the issue of players not knowing what they actually are(ie new players who didn't see the announcement) and picking them up anyways.

On the otherhand, the issue I see with players wanting the events system "fixed" is that the ones who tend to complain are the players who can't reliably get into events anymore. What exactly makes a player feel they are more deserving to enjoy an event than another player?  

Why not go Bots-based, and limit event participation times to a participation time-limit / hour (or 2 hours..).

Example, say, you do have 3,000 players minimum 24 hours a day.
Most events have a maximum player participation limit, so for example purposes we will go with 30 (it divides nicely into our 3,000 player count..)...

[*]Estimate a standard time frame for some events (note, these are not right, just for example purposes)
--> 30 events / hour (2 minutes a piece?) [Model supports 900 unique players will see events in an hour]
--> 20 events / hour (3 minutes a piece?) [Model supports 600 unique players will see events in an hour]
--> 10 events / hour (6 minutes a piece?) [Model supports 300 unique players will see events in an hour]

Now, not every event will fall within this model, but, I am sure you can think of some that will, or even last less than 2-3 minutes, and you can group them accordingly.

Rotate the amount of events and event types that are playable within an hour -- if written correctly, it should even be possible to host multiple events at once?, limiting participant selection based on how recently a player participated in an event -- and if you want to segment it even more, what TYPE of event.

If it is possible to host multiple events at the same time, given the numbers above, you could have anywhere from 1800 - 3600 unique event participants in an hour.


Granted, you'd have to have a fall-back method assuming that everyone ends up on an event-time-limit-cooldown, to sort through and make an exception if enough participants were not found (ex: need 30 to start, but only 18 can participate --- 12 would be selected at random, regardless of cooldown).

I stopped playing before these new admin hosted "game" events were really even implemented, and came back around the time the warpers were being phased out completely. Since I've been back I've gotten into 4 events, I believe (although one of those was via a warper), which I feel is pretty fair (given how the system works) So I think I have a pretty unbiased opinion here, especially when compared to some other people. I can't speak for everyone, but I think most people are just noting the size of Classic's population in relation to how many events take place and how many people get into those events. I like that it's completely fair and gives everyone a chance, but, once again, when you have 3500 players on, and only 30 get to participate, the vast majority of players aren't getting in. I'm sure there's tons of players who haven't gotten into even one event using the queue system.

It's not fairness that's the problem. It's the numbers themselves. And numbers don't lie. People aren't looking for something that gives them a personal advantage (at least most are not). They're looking for a way to allow a higher percentage of the Classic population to experience admin events.
