Assuming there will be more skills then just dexterity, I feel that if they are solely used for accessing new areas, people won't like them very much due to the fact that they don't directly affect average gameplay, maybe some type of skill system could be introduced with this, nothing major, just something that players who have a higher dexterity can brag about.

Maybe normal walking could give you exp after a while? Such as 1 exp each 5-10 seconds of walking. To prevent players from walking into walls forever to gain exp, you could make it so you only receive exp when your x/y position is changed.

Can it affect melee in some way? We're already piling up so many melee weapons, most of which are pretty darn cool, but we've fallen into the same pitfall as iEra has with melees being useless against ranged weapons even in extreme close quarters.
