A day on Mars is about 40 minutes longer than a normal day. That means by the 2nd day, your watch would be an hour and twenty minutes off. On the 3rd day, it would be two hours off, etc. Eventually your time-keeping would be so screwed up that midnight on your watch synced to Earth time could be in the middle of the day on Mars. |

I'm pretty well aware that our time-keeping methods are imperfect, but they would be even more inaccurate if we kept them the same on other planets. (Because, again, we measure time mostly by comparing the positions of objects. The universe does not bend itself in half just to fit our 24-hour day / night schedule.) |
