Well, it can block websites outside the US from being shown in the US, but it can't make Canada, for example, block a website. But if they took down YouTube, for instance, nobody else would be able to access it unless someone outside the states maintained it.

This is actually a ver understandable situation. Here are two perspectives. number one is us, number two is the world 1. Aww, we cant have fun get our pirated movies and songs, having fun on facebook, getting lyrics to remember a song.... Nobody is going to go on the internet! We will be limited to our choices and things to do on the internet. 2. Now your a movie director, the best of the best. You just came out with a new movie and it made good money in theaters, and now its on dvd. nobody is gonna buy the dvd because you can just get it off pirated websites and thats what the government is trying to stop. People who put hard labor loose money when they put out the dvd. Now think if you were a songwriter, get the song free, or buy. Now you will only have the choice to buy. Seems like a fair argument, but you know im right. But hopefully chioce one will win |

Stating it's true over and over doesn't make it any more true. Your interpretation of piracy is way off-base, and your generalization of how SOPA is going to effect the internet is insulting to say the least, because it goes beyond facebook, piracy and "having fun." SOPA is just the tip of the iceberg of what's really wrong with the government.

Read what I got from a SOPA STRIKE website after I submitted to congress: The really crazy part?* We might even win. Approaching Monday's crucial Senate vote there are now 35 Senators publicly opposing PIPA.* Last week there were 5.** And it just takes just 41 solid "no" votes to permanently stall PIPA (and SOPA) in the Senate.* What seemed like miles away a few weeks ago is now within reach.* |

This is why SOPA discussions shouldn't have been brought onto a site frequented mostly by people under 18. They will do whatever they are told to do in politics, and only receive the information showed by to them by other people because they don't care enough to research on their own. I understand that there needs to be awareness but I do not believe children should be involved. |

You got your opinions all turned around kid. Being able to pirate things is bad, of course, and I fully support the intentions of SOPA. But the way these two bills are going about of censoring the internet is wrong. They will be allowing anyone and everyone to sue websites, small businesses, and individual people for what they may think is copyrighted content. This new atmosphere on the internet will hinder any website and any developer and limit them to being constantly bombarded by copyright threats. With the openness of the internet, it will be a war zone, with copyright accusations going hang wire and websites like YouTube having to limit what people can say or do on their services to avoid accusation. This will hinder what the internet has been cherished for in the past decade. Complete and total Free speech. Please, do more research beyond hearing what people say about the law. Thanks! |
