The media and the government likes to enforce the idea that words like "encryption" and "hacking" are bad, but the public doesn't even know what those words really mean.
People who want to learn how to hack nowadays mostly are just script-kiddies who are only interested in the name recognition or power; not as someone who is genuinely interested in the art of exploitation. That's why hacking has such a bad reputation. People who want to learn are chunked in with a bunch of wanna-be hackers with their own copies of Kali Linux, without the slightest clue about how any of it works under the hood.
