Shaded Legend - 15th Year Anniversary of the Graal PC client Server
On 03/16/2001 my amazing team (most notable James205) and I released Shaded Legend. I was the Project Manager and vision of this project but how far it came had so much more to do with all the amazing volunteer folks who worked on Shaded Legend on and off throughout the 13 years it was on client (2001-2013). I merely set the foundation then moved on to work for Graal as a brand about 3 months after I released the server. Having most of the of the sparring community come over and support me left me speechless. So many ideas that Graal now uses across many servers came from the creativity and sheer hard work of countless peoples commitment, dedication, and belief of Shaded Legend. Although this server is no more a part of Graal it will forever live on in my and many others memories as one of their favorite servers of all time. For me, mainly the community/people were my motivation because otherwise I would have had no drive to want to help keep it alive. I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of the people who volunteered giving up their precious and valuable time to help me develop what seemed a simple idea at the time. Also I really can't express in words how thankful I am to the the players who stayed loyal with Shaded Legend through the tough times when we had to convert ALL level and GS scripts over to make the server remain playable. So many brilliant minds helped to make that happen. Now without releasing TOO much information publicly I want to announce James205 and have future projects in the pipeline! In the meantime, I'll see you guys on iclassic. Remember, hugs not thugs people! <3 xoxo |

Hopefully, whatever you're doing has nothing to do with the PC client. SL was the first playerworld I really played as a home, I was way too young at the time to be significant though. I changed my name every other week and was mostly a PK-laming newbie that went by names like "Illuzion" and "3RR0R", had a statue in Sky's house as the latter name. I remember the whole layout of the playerworld really well for how long ago it was. Rusty's house and spar being one level left of OSL, this strange house with lava inside of it that serves no other purpose being one level right of it. I think above that house was the KOTH event house? The events house itself was the top-right house in OSL and the manager's statue was always to the left of it, I believe with a warp ring. Northwest of OSL was some cyan-tiled castle-type thing where you could get horses, the first few days I played SL I would literally pause at 0.5 while on a horse because I hadn't figured out where the hell to get them yet. I remember people like Gafgarion, Biggi, Tommes, hrr4, Alma, Blau Blau, The Wizard, Myzterie, TtTackler, benpoke103, ArchAngel, Alucard, Fei, Kinhad, etc. It was a pretty good playerworld overall, everything you needed was within one level of each other. Everyone would PK at OSL, the spar was one level left, and the events house was right in OSL. It had pretty good exploring, like south of OSL there was some command you could type that would create a bridge and let you explore this little island further east. There were also a bunch of caves with secret entrances that you could open with bombs, they were fun to find. I don't remember when SL changed, I imagine it was like 2005 or 2006, but when it took some RPGish approach it pretty much turned to crap. Then again, all of Graal was turning to crap at that point. |

We did have plans to expand way more outside of the main map but we always took the heavy development as realistic as we possible could (lots of playerworlds would have unrealistic expectations and release hype stuff wayyy to early only to have it die instantly). But you're pretty much dead on. There was a point when it tried to change a lot but it was always reverted back to how it used to be. SL had a crazy loyal fanbase and community, I looked at the old forums (i have backups) and it's crazy how much work/how many people were involved.
