Here's my final submission, I think. I think the whole battle aspect of a shield that is broken when hit, would be an awesome idea. It turned out better than expected.

I'm wondering if your background contains the same color value of 'grey' as in any other area of the image? might make the edge of your shield transparent ?

I mean I guess, but I think it would need two circles to make it more noticeable. Thus, looks fine to me.
