Yeah that's not a good thing. Sometimes people have a reason to be impressed, and sometimes it feels like they're just going with the group of people saying "Zomg I love it." It's good to state that you either like, or hate it, but provide the reason(s) as to why.


It's a pretty decent background though I have a few problems with it. The render isn't that good. It looks like it was merely placed on the background rather than blended into it creating one whole piece. You could have probably picked a better font, or changed how you blended it because it currently steals the spotlight rather than the render, or background.

Overall pretty decent, but it doesn't look like it flows to me. (It's not a good thing that I can see his jaggy outline.) My favorite thing is the falling snow over the character.

Yeah, since I didn't really have time to do a full vector of it, a couple lines were jagged and pixelated. It's easy to fix, just a quick lasso tool.

And the font wasn't a font, it was custom from a plain white block, and I added black to the parts I wanted to "carve out" and alpha-ed the black. I actually did want the "Recon" part to be the focal point, I had the render just be a little side element.

I like that one more, but the orange glow across the entire image is overpowering.

No need to do a vector image for the render, especially if you're making the background image for a specific size.
Even if it's not a font I still think you could have picked a better one.
It's weird to put a render in as a side-element yet have it so bold. I suggest not using a render next time, and going abstract like your second background. It would probably look pretty good with just the ice, logo, and font-image.
