Limit is probably characters in order to limit the amount of data being transferred.

I like it how it is, I'm not interested in loading a profile with 3000+ characters of status text.  

+bump It would be nice if they could increase the character count by a little. Adding backgrounds to our profiles kinda limits our ability to include a status.

^^Yeah. I wanna have a cool background AND a long rage status too. Currently I can only have one or the other.  

If said scrolling option were implemented, it should be automatic and not manually. After about 5 seconds of reading through, if the status is long, then it could scroll automatically so you can keep reading. That feature is from the xbox live profile bios, at least where I have seen it.

no auto scroll, you scroll on your own.
