It's bad but personally this doesn't affect me at all.
I have my own life to live and don't feel the need to worry about things that aren't close to me.
If you always worry and care for everything that happens in the world you'll just end up upsetting yourself over and over again in my opinion

I don't only care about myself. But why would you start caring for something that has no impact on you and has nothing to do with you or your existence at all?

No it isn't.

He is implying he cares about people and things that happen in his area, but if something happens all the way accross the world then he won't care because he knows he can't do anything about it so no sense in worrying himself and feeling bad over it.

Realistically the way he describes him self applies to most people here, you can tell yourself and others you care about problems like child slavery but at the end of the day not many people here who claim that actually do anything about it.

What happens across the world directly influences you whoever ever you are.

If you care about child slavery then you can easily buy products and goods that aren't factory made, maybe you should go modify your shopping list.

Him buying something made by a child doesn't really count as being something that affects him either, he doesn't go shopping and look at every thing and then feel bad, he's just doing normal shopping. The only affect child slavery has in this scenario for him is a positive one because he can buy what he wants due to it.
