Got word from my parents (not in my city), they've already stocked on canned goods and know quite a few people who have been doing the same.
Hasn't been like that here, as far as I know though.

The human ego secretly wants something like this to happen because it makes you feel more important and is a complete shock to the system vs doing the same predictable thing everyday for the rest of your life.

That and people can be ****ing ******ed. All the fearmongering from various news sites seems to be working.  

The fact the government is spending so much money and resources just trying (and somewhat failing) at containing this is enough to make us at least be prepared for the worst.
