Selective sparring is much slower than just going into mixed and streaking. That's why all those boosters and selective sparrers have ratios of "640:32" instead of "18954:1256." It would take a long time to get up to a high number of spars by doing that, and I wouldn't consider it a big issue if there are those who just lame their way up there. Not like they'd be credited by the community, they'd just get another hat for themselves. The hats would inspire me to spar a lot more in singles for sure. I hardly ever single spar, just over 3k total spars played for me, but if these were reintroduced I would assume a lot of people like me would begin to spar more for a goal.

Yeah, I don't see many selective sparrers with a high ratio. I only know of one that has 15k+ wins. Anyways, implementing these hats would push players to actively spar more. Don't think this would take long to implement anyways, there's already a few spar hats they just need to re-add.

I know a ton of players who have boosted their spar statistic from quick spar rooms, most of them have over 10k+ spar wins now. Not even surprised beating them in spar and see them exiting room after the first match.

I have measured my own ratio for both quick spar and streak rooms about two months ago.
And the results were like this:
Quick spar 35(W)-5(L) EST/CT school lunch hour - (45 min)
there were about 4-6 people.
Streak room 52(W)-5(L) EST/CT school lunch hour - (45 min)
there were about 3-8 people.
Quick spar 50(W)-12(L) EST/CT Afternoon/Evening - (1 hour and 30 min)
there were about 8-15 people.
Streak room 30(W)-23(L) EST/CT Afternoon/Evening - (1 hour and 30 min)
there were about 6-20 people.
To summarize the thing I wrote above this is that sparring during the morning/school hour is very efficient for boosters. There aren't many people sparring, even if there is it's all noobs.

If spar achievement hats are added back. I assume sparring at quick spar would take much longer than before.
Every spar room will be filled with at least 10+ people during the US evening hours.
Having more sparrers sparring will reduce the amount of boosters.  

everyone knows who the boosters are anyway, scrubs like "Pete" and 3xcite and blah, blah, blah, over 10k spars and have literally NEVER been spotted in the main room

no reason to let those nubs hold back a good thing

Haven't really contributed to this thread much but I just want to say that on threads where people say sparring is dying, Thallen objects, so really he's just doing this for more hats rather than actually trying to "revive" the sparring community.

Also I honestly don't think BK should get a prize, it is way easier to BK than it is to PK, so in my honest opinion BK hats shouldn't be added.

And Thallen literally gets a hat at every GST tournament so I don't know why he wants to have an incentive for 1v1 sparring. If anything he should be trying to find an incentive for guild sparring other than the GST because 1v1 sparring is way more active than guild sparring.

If the milestones Thallen suggested would be implemented, I would automatically get 3 hats, but really I have no purpose for that because what is the point? If you have a lot of spar wins people will know, you don't need a hat to show-off even more. And don't say "I don't care about the hat I just want sparring to be more active" because you and I both know that isn't true at all.

Also the "give the unchosen hat to whoever is at the top of the leaderboard" is honestly a bad idea because it is literally the same people on the leaderboard every month. You've gone from "give a hat to people with x wins" to "give a hat to the person at the top of the leaderboard". Sorry, but no, this wouldn't give an incentive for people to keep sparring because when you only have one (and probably the same) person getting a hat every few months, people will give up because they know either Sarah or Thallen will be getting 2 hats during that GST; one from winning the tournament and one from being at the top of the leaderboard.

You can say this is a poor argument, but I never knew that Thallen or Sarah were afraid of losing their spot to "Original DragonAssasinSlayer138" on the leaderboard.

If your goal is to actually encourage people to spar (which, quite evidently, it isn't), why do you? What is the point of that? To beat new people everyday? Why do you want the sparring community to be more active? You have not given an actual statement as to why you want the sparring community to be more active.

I don't see this being added anytime soon. (Not before any bigger and more important updates, at least.)

Thallen has not topped the spar leaderboards for a while. I didn't read much of the rest of this so nothing else to really say.

You guys fail to realize that by them wanting this idea for 'hats' they would be required to spar more and so would everyone else on Graal who just wants the 'hats' therefore the idea of them just wanting hats is pretty much going to revive the spar community

Thallen has not topped the spar leaderboards for a while. I didn't read much of the rest of this so nothing else to really say.

T'was an exaggeration, every month the people at the top of the leaderboard are pretty much the same people (similar to how Alumni is a recurring first place winner in the GST).

Anyways that statement was pretty much talking about Thallen's other idea, which wasn't what the thread was originally made to talk about.

Thallen originally stated he wanted to revive the sparring community but on threads where people state that sparring is dead, he objects. That makes me wonder why he really wants these hats brought back.

So now, what exactly is the point of bringing spar hats back again? So Thallen can have more hats? Because he sure doesn't want to revive it like he's saying he does.

That thread was created in September 2013. Thallen created this one in March 2014. So when he made this thread he actually said sparring wasn't dead only five months before. He claimed in the OP that he wanted this to increase activity but only five months previously did he say that sparring wasn't dead.

So that makes me wonder why he wanted this in the first place. It clearly isn't for the reasons he said.

Comet made a comment a while back about people only pitching ideas that would bring a benefit to them if they get implemented and that is true most of the time. I think we both know why they want the hats, but they will never admit it in public. It embarrasses players to admit they want a hat because it makes them feel "important" because only a few people have it.  

I did not bother reading all of this , however to the main point of adding hats back please do so because someone players such as my self need some sort of motivation / goal to achieve to increase competition ... At the moment single spar is so pointless I literallu join the queue when I'm bored and give people easy wins as I dont even feel like sparing seriously

Way more than a 'few' people would have this hat because it is something that anyone can achieve and it is not a limited time item therefore having it does make anyone seem more important than anyone else.

Although, it'd be fun to have it as a sign of dominance over the noobs who suck and can't get one.

A lot can change in 5 months and unless you analyzed the spar community within that time frame you have no basis to state that it did not die down, whereas Thallen and the numerous other spar people in this thread have been seeing the community on a daily basis and can easily tell whether it is dying or not.
